My first demo tape, What The Hell Is That?!, was recorded entirely on a Technics dual cassette deck in 1986, overdubbing back and forth between tapes until I had completed 11 tracks. The album is in mono and full of hiss. MUCH of this make me cringe, to be honest, and when I first put it out on cdr I deliberately left off two tracks. Well, being the dummy I am, I put them back on and have reissued it again, so here it is. Keep in mind, some of this is pretty damned lame, but there is a certain charm to some of the songs, most of which I went on to re-record on 4-track cassette (at home of course) and/or in an 8-track reel-to-reel studio for my Nothing Personal cd (Emigre, 1991).

New Cut And Paste Records web site
I have a new Ray Carmen/Cut And Paste Records web site at: www.raycarmenmusic.blogspot.com, which obviously links to here, since this will still be the news page (for the three of you that actually read it from time to time LOL). The old web page at Angelfire is no longer valid, so ignore the link to it at the right (until I get that fixed, anyway). Thanks!

Coming soon: PROVOCATIVE REPERCUSSIONS
Coming soon will be a professionally pressed 14-track best-of called PROVOCATIVE REPERCUSSIONS. It will be comprised of recent (ie. the last ten years or so) solo material, collaborations, and a few choice tracks from Kinski Spiral, the now-defunct six-year recording project of Ray Carmen, Bob Ethington, and Joe LaRose. It should be out by late February 2011.

New track posted on MySpace, and Hal McGee's International Email Audio Art Project
Messages, a new six-and-a-half minute ambient track created with Ken Clinger (and featuring phone calls from my daughter), has been posted on MySpace: www.myspace.com/raycarmen (yes, I still use MySpace, despite the fact that it is getting harder and harder for me to use and edit it...). A less-than-a-minute long edit of the track, called Phone Call, is track 13 on Hal McGee's International Email Audio Art Project, Volume 5 at: http://www.archive.org/details/InternationalEmailAudioArtProjectVolume5. Messages is from the forthcoming (Spring 2011, if I'm lucky) album, All Thumbs...
